The closest airport to London would be city airport. However this is a reality small airports built on the Docks in East London and therefore it does not support the bigger Boeing 747’s and the Airbus and so must airlines will use Heathrow, Stanstead, Gatwick or Luton.
Heathrow is second in terms of distance from London and is probably the largest airport in the UK. Therefore because of the high running costs of this airport, it’s only the main international airlines such as BA that use it. I’m not to sure about the other airports but I know that there is a 24 hour coach service from London to Stanstead.
