England is one of the most culturally rich and fascinating countries in Europe and makes an ideal destination for all manner of vacation. Whether wishing to immerse yourself in the unbelievable history of this magical island or wanting to discover what modern England has to offer in the major cities, a vacation in England will be enjoyed by all.
Not only are there vibrant modern cities and amazing cultural attractions but the countryside of England is worth a vacation on its own merits. With tiny villages and hamlets dotted throughout the striking landscapes there it is unsurprising that so many have been inspired by this diverse and beautiful land.
The landscapes in England are unfathomably disparate considering the islands relatively small size. When on your vacation you will be able to see nearly all of them and travelling through the countryside is a sheer joy, especially on a balmy summer’s evening.

With many medieval villages and towns still in existence the historical element is constantly strong. The north of the England is as beautiful as it is rugged and is a perfect place to vacation with families or even as a couple. The national parks of the ‘Peaks’ and ‘Lakes’ contain stunning vistas and truly breathtaking scenery that is pleasure to traverse; with moors, forests and valleys those on vacation will be astounded by this green and pleasant land.
That is not to say England is all about countryside, part of your vacation should contain a trip to at least one of the major cities. London of course should be at the top of your list of things to do. As the capital its sprawling metropolis still retains a distinctive character; most probably due to the extremely interesting history.
As the residence of the royal family, no vacation to England would be complete without visiting Buckingham Palace and witnessing the changing of the guard.
Manchester as the major city in the north of England is also well worth the journey up country. This modern and vibrant city is full of life and is rapidly becoming a world business centre. For those who wish to add some spice to their vacation Manchester provides excellent nightlife with numerous bars and clubs.
As with most of England there is much history in Manchester; as the world’s first industrial city, the role played by the entrepreneurs of Manchester was crucial to industrial revolution, and the industrialisation of the world.
A vacation to England should of course involve a large historical constituent. With so much heritage it is hard to ignore the thousands of sites that offer an insight into the island’s turbulent past. With large Roman settlements throughout the country and Hadrian’s Wall in the north, those who love the ancient world will be entertained.
Later sites include Norman keeps and castles as well as later developments such as Tudor manor houses. History forms a large part of the English national conscience and this is unsurprising considering the amount of history present in all corners of the country.
England should be a definite consideration for anyone thinking of a vacation. There is little doubt you will return more educated and informed on some of the formative periods in world history. As long as the dreaded rain does not descend the summers in England can be truly amazing; catching a game of cricket during a summer’s day is highly advisable to those taking a vacation in England.
